What’s the #1 reason to study with Tribeca Music?
Our instructors are warm and friendly and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with each individual or parent to craft a lesson plan that fits the student’s unique needs and favorite type of music. Whether you're playing in local bands, a seven-year-old taking the first lesson, or a forty-year-old returning to the piano after many years, our teachers will share their love for music and help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.
How qualified are Tribeca Music’s instructors?
Our faculty have received their musical education from prestigious institutions such as New York University, Mannes School of Music, and Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Each teacher has years of professional performance experience, formal training, years of teaching experience of all ages, and specialized knowledge of a large range of musical styles.

What are your credentials?
We are members of Music Teachers National Association and New York State School Music Association. We are also Steinway and Sons music educators. All of our teachers have higher education degrees in music education, professional performance experience in NYC and abroad, and years of teaching experience of all ages.
What instruments do you teach?
Piano, voice, guitar, violin, flute, and cello.
What ages do you teach?
We start as young as 3 years old for toddler lessons, and we teach any ages through adult students. We are a family-oriented business and often teach children, siblings, and parents as well and especially enjoy teaching family duets :)
Do I have to know how to read music?
No. Beginners are welcome!
Do I need an instrument to learn?
It depends on the instrument.
For piano, you do not need a piano at home to take lessons, although it is highly recommended. A simple full-size electronic keyboard will suffice to start. We recommend the Casio Privia, which you can order online.
For guitar, flute, violin, and cello, you will need an instrument. We can provide you with recommendations based on the size and experience of the student.
We have a comprehensive list of instrument we recommend HERE, including links to purchase.
Are there recitals?
Absolutely, we offer free biannual recitals! Every December and June, our students have the opportunity to perform in world-class recital halls on a Steinway grand piano. Unlike most of our competitors, we do not charge students a fee to perform. Admission is free, so you can invite all of your family and friends.

“I highly recommend Lydia and Tribeca Music for musical instrument lessons. Both of my children have been studying with her for almost 10 years now. It is a testament to her teaching that my children have happily stuck with their music lessons for so long! Lydia is a kind and patient teacher, while also pushing the children to work their hardest. My family has been incredibly pleased with her, and cannot imagine taking lessons with anyone else.”
Manisha C.
“My 4 year old son started taking guitar and piano lessons with Tribeca Music this year and has thrived! He is completely engaged for the entirety of the lesson, and his instructor is adept at working with toddlers/young children and meeting their interests while also teaching introductory principles of technique, music theory, songs to play etc. Tribeca Music Academy has enriched my sons life and we look forward to many many years of music with them to come.”
Elizabeth K.
“We have been with Tribeca Music for many years now. Lydia is an amazing piano teacher. She’s very knowledgeable, talented and professional. Our son’s progress through these years has been outstanding. Lydia’s teaching and her skills are the support that keeps him going and on track with his practice. In fact, he grew so much under her tutelage that he’s thinking about continuing his passion for music in a higher academic setting. In his own words, he couldn’t imagine life without music. Thank you Lydia for your unwavering commitment and support in making sure that his love for music is growing so beautifully.”
