“I highly recommend Lydia and Tribeca Music for musical instrument lessons. Both of my children have been studying with her for almost 10 years now. It is a testament to her teaching that my children have happily stuck with their music lessons for so long! Lydia is a kind and patient teacher, while also pushing the children to work their hardest. My family has been incredibly pleased with her, and cannot imagine taking lessons with anyone else.”

What’s the #1 reason to study with Tribeca Music?

Our highly skilled instructors are warm and friendly and get to know each student and parent on a personal level. We work with each individual or parent to craft a lesson plan that fits the student’s unique needs and favorite type of music. Whether you're playing in local bands, a seven-year-old taking the first lesson, or a forty-year-old returning to the piano after many years, our teachers will share their love for music and help you set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.

How qualified are Tribeca Music’s instructors?

Our faculty have received their higher education degrees in music from prestigious institutions such as New York University, Mannes School of Music, Juilliard, and Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Each teacher has years of professional performance experience, formal music training, years of teaching experience of all ages, and specialized knowledge of a large range of musical styles. ‍

All of our teachers pass our Family Safety Pledge with background checks and 5-star student referrals and professional recommendations.

What will I learn from music lessons at Tribeca Music?

We offer expert instruction in piano, voice, guitar, drums, and more. Each lesson is tailored to you or your child’s skill level and musical goals.

As a Steinway & Sons-accredited school, our instructors combine classical technique, music theory, and your child’s favorite songs to create lessons that are both rigorous and fun.

Whether you want to learn Chopin or Taylor Swift, our teachers are dedicated to helping you become the musician you want to be. They will show you the fundamentals of sight-reading, technique and theory, as well as incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. We love teaching students songs they love to play.

What are your credentials?

We are members of Music Teachers National Association and New York State School Music Association. We are also Steinway and Sons music educators. All of our teachers have higher education degrees in music education, professional performance experience in NYC and abroad, and years of teaching experience of all ages.

What is the best age to start music lessons?

We accept students as young as 3 years old! For our youngest learners, lessons focus on developing basic musical skills like rhythm, melody, and listening through fun and engaging activities. Older students can dive into more advanced techniques, theory, and performance, tailored to their skill level and goals. Whether starting early or later, we ensure each student receives personalized instruction to support their musical growth.

What instruments do you teach?

Piano, voice, guitar, ukulele, violin, flute, cello, and drums.

What ages do you teach?

Tribeca Music offers private music lessons in piano, guitar, voice, violin, flute, cello, drums and more for students of all ages, from preschoolers to adults.

We start as young as 3 years old for toddler lessons, and we teach any ages through adult students. We are a family-oriented business and often teach children, siblings, and parents as well and especially enjoy teaching family duets.

Do I have to know how to read music?

No. Beginners are always welcome!

Do I need an instrument to learn?

It depends on the instrument.

For piano, you do not need a piano at home to take lessons, although it is highly recommended. A simple full-size electronic keyboard will suffice to start. We recommend the Casio Privia, which you can order online.

For guitar, flute, violin, and cello, you will need an instrument. We can provide you with recommendations based on the size and experience of the student.

We have a comprehensive list of instruments we recommend HERE, including links to purchase.

How does Scheduling work?

Lessons are available year-round and are fully customized to support each student’s goals, learning style, and musical taste.

We follow the rhythm of the school year with fall, spring, and summer sessions, but lessons are billed month-to-month for flexibility. You can start anytime, and we’ll help you find a regular time slot that works for your family’s schedule. There are no long-term contracts or semester minimums.

Your first month is always a risk-free trial period so you can make sure your teacher is the best fit for your family.

Are there recitals?

We believe music is meant to be shared. Students have the opportunity to perform in biannual recitals and community events throughout the year. These gatherings celebrate progress, build confidence, and create lasting memories for families.

Whether your child dreams of playing Steinway Hallor simply wants to explore the joy of music, Tribeca Music offers the foundation and inspiration to help them succeed.

Recital admission is free, so you can invite all of your family and friends.
