Kid-Friendly Concerts to Spark a Lifelong Love of Live Music
This September, New York families have two wonderful, kid-friendly concerts that make it easy—and affordable—to introduce children to the magic of live music.
WHCO Family Concert: Breaking Barriers
On Saturday, September 19, 2026, head to Our Saviour’s Atonement Lutheran Church (178 Bennett Avenue, New York, NY 10040) for the WHCO Family Concert: Breaking Barriers (whco.music). A hands-on “Meet the Instruments” petting zoo runs from 3:15–3:45 pm, followed by a narrated family concert from 4:00–4:45 pm led by narrator Sarah Ziegler.
Tickets are about $15 per child ages 2–12, with infants under 1 free, and a $40.25 season pass option for families who want to attend more concerts in the series. Culturally, “Breaking Barriers” highlights how classical music can belong to everyone, inviting kids from all backgrounds into the concert experience.
Bilingual Broadway EN VIVO at Lincoln Center
The following weekend, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, enjoy Bilingual Broadway EN VIVO at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center (1887 Broadway, New York, NY 10023) at 11:00 am (lincolncenter.org). Hosted by Luis E. Mora with co-host Robin de Jesús, this free, family program features beloved Broadway songs performed in Spanish, with English and Spanish storytelling woven throughout.
Admission is free, with general seating on a first-come, first-served basis and an optional Fast Track line for early planners. As a relaxed, highly accessible performance—with ASL interpretation, assistive listening, and sensory supports—it celebrates bilingualism and Latino culture, showing kids that their languages and identities belong center stage.
By making concerts like these a regular outing, families can build a joyful routine around live music—nurturing curiosity, cultural pride, and shared memories that last long after the final note.
